Managing medical risks while out on the road in midlife- Diabetes Alert Day

its a fact of life.   We all age.   We all are facing a battle of decline as we push foward each day.   Making the most of your midlife journeys (specifically motorcycle travel) will require you to be in acceptance of your health and your medical risk factors.    As we age, we will be at risk of many health issues .

  • High Blood Pressure
  • Arthritis
  • Heart Attack
  • Diabetes

These are just some of the things that can be common in an an aging population. Just because you have 1 of these factors (or all or that matter) doesnt mean have to give up the passions you have in life.   Part of life is living . Stay active and keep your mind and body sharp.  This will keep you riding in to your golden years.  Even with your best efforts, these conditions may impact your daily life and well-being.

This week, March 27,2018, is National Diabetes Alert Day.   A perfect time to draw attention to awareness of diabetes. Unmanaged diabetes can result in many health complications and no doubt ruin what might otherwise be a great day of riding.

The Silent Killer

According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases,  close to 30 million Americans currently  life lives impacted by diabetes.  Nearly a quarter of those are NOT aware of their condition.   On their website, they have a Diabetes Risk Test .  Take a minute and check your risk.

If your goal is to keep riding, then you need to keep up with your health.   Fluctuations in your blood sugar can impact your responsiveness , alertness, and motor control .   Making you less safe.  Making you unsafe.
