The Dangerous and Distracted World We Live In

The connected world we live in

the St Paul MN police announced that they were to end both their police units and motorcycle units.

According to their release, the factors in making this decision centered around these things:

  1. Injuries have doubled over the last 4 years
  2. Reassigning these focused units will allow for a better response to a wider range of issues they have been seeing
  3. They want to double down on their attention to distracted driving; citing increased injuries to pedestrians and cyclists.

We’ve seen the commercials and we know we shouldn’t, but we still do it. We also know its not legal , and we still do it. Sounds a great deal like an epidemic. The numbers are staggering.

Riding a motorcycle is dangerous by design. Adding distracted driving to the regular encounters we also have to deal with, further increases the risk.

As you get your bike ready and plan out your trips this year, keep that in mind. The drivers KNOW they should not be doing it, but still they persist.

Ride safe and for god’s sake. Stay off your phone!
