YOUR OWN MOTORCYCLE REBUILD… (Part 2)

My motorcycle rebuild continued, as covid continued on and shutdowns dominated the daily conversations, I continued to plug away . Cleaning and scrubbing every bit of the engine evolved into painting prep. If you missed Part 1. Find it here..

Luckily, I was blessed with calm and warm days this Spring to throw down some inexpensive engine paint.

The engine process was coming along nicely. I knew I had the opportunity to clean up and freshen up anything else on the bike I felt like tackling.

Once I got the engine 100% back together, I stood back and wondered. WHATS NEXT. With Urbon Monk, GSResources, and a trusty Suzuki manual on my side, I could keep going.

Whats next in my motorcycle build was a 100% tear down of the the rest of the bike.

The objective was to clean up and repaint everything.
So over the next few weeks, my focus changed from engine repair to frame cleaning, sanding, and painting.

The garage was now a bike shop /paint shop. At one point, I felt the need to reduce the size of my GIANT fender. Bring on the cut off wheel..

Using the front edge of the fender to trace the new edge of the smaller fender, A little precision grinding and all done.

Motorcycle Rebuild Recap

By this point, here is what I’ve knocked out on my covid motorcycle rebuild:

  1. Complete engine tear down hand cleaned every bit /piece.
  2. Installed new seals, piston rings, and sanded the fins flat on the head for a little flair.
  3. Complete frame tear down and fender chop.
  4. Painted the forks to match the frame.

The fun stuff.

On the next update, I will talk about the paint process and getting the best DIY /Garage paint job (from my experience).
