The World Cup of Motorcycles, Round 2

Motorcycles are found EVERYWHERE.    With the 2018 World Cup this year in Russia, what better time to highlight the motorcycle trends across the globe as we come to an end in 2018.

Round 1 we looked at Argentina, Australia, and Belgium.   In Round 2, we’ll look at Brazil, Colombia , and Costa Rica.

Round 2

Brazil .  Another South American giant.  They are both soccer (football) powerhouses and motorcycle crazy consumers.   In Recent years,   Brazil has been DOMINATED by a little  company named HONDA.    Just 4 years ago, Brazil was reporting nearly 80% market share going to Honda.    This is a country loyal to its star player.    Like other countries however, the appeal of a big , muscle bound Harley has taken hold.  However, Harley Davidson has shown increased investment here.

Colombia.   Another South American varsity player.   In 2015,   Colombia accounted for 75% of the motorcycle sales combined with Brazil and Argentina.  Much like Brazil, the market is dominated by Honda, Yamaha , and even Suzuki.  Interestingly, two wheeled transportation sets people free. People reach for smaller, lower cc bikes that can take them anywhere.    In the same league as Brazil.  With nearly 40% of Colombians in poverty.  Having the freedom of travel on two wheels is a powerful force.

Costa Rica.   A young player showing growth in exponential units.  In 2014, a 30% growth spike was seen in the motorcycle import market.   So while they may not be as strong and dominant as Brazil and Columbia, Costa Rica is on a growth curve and ready to strike.

In this second round of the World Cup  of Motorcycles, we saw a South American dominated line up.   Fueled by economical and efficient machines that know how to make an impact.    There is a lot of potential in this group.

Keep riding!
