Does Harley Davidson Need To Go On A Diet?

Some Harley stores have the subtlety of this monster

Big, bold bikes from Harley Davidson have been the definition of Americana over the last decade. Big, expensive bikes with lots of perks and a community to go along with it.

In an earlier post, the potential for a small bike takeover was discussed and very well may be a reality. Harley Davidson is selling less bikes and less expensive bikes may be needed to reach new markets. Look at the stew of negative press last year and the focus on new lines and more motorcycle options. From electric sport bikes to adventure bikes, the face of Harley Davidson is changing.

One thing that many dont think about is the size of the Harley dealer in this country. They are MONSTERS. Much like the mega malls of the 80s and 90s. The problem is, what happens to the mega malls ? How many do you still have around you? If you do , how many still have the same stores in them?

A prediction, hopefully not too negative for you , is that in the coming years, Harley Davidson will be committed to smaller stores, committed to bike sales and repairs. The days of 2 and 3 story motorcycle museums will fade away…………..

The motorcycle culture in the USA is not shrinking. Quite the opposite. More own motorcycles. More women are riding. So why all the negativity?

Because of the shift in motorcycle popularity , functionality, and even cost, Harley will have a hard time operating these big stores . Selling less big expensive bikes will further squeeze cash flow. Land & buildings requires dollars. A shrinking Harley Davidson may result in smaller stores.
