It’s August and its time to check those eyes. Its National Eye Exam Month! You’ve been holding off all year and complaining that you cant read the instructions for that trip you’re planning to your next motorcycle rally. Stop putting it off and start seeing again. Aging eyes is one reality of midlife and will continue to bother you , bit by bit and line by line.

In other posts, we’ve talked about staying active and riding as you age. Your eyes will play a large role in doing just that. Here are some common issues that are age related according to WebMD.

Those Aging Eyes

  1. Presbyopioa; That little but common issue that keeps you from reading that small print. You find yourself stretching that arm out to read the label on your beer or find out when to take that next pain pill. It’s estimated that more than 1 billion people are impacted by this wonderful condition. The solution: READERS!
  2. Dry Eyes: Those long , hot rides you find yourself on may leave you saying one thing. MY EYES ARE DRY!. Its not just the 90 degree weather, dust, and pollen. The aging process alone can cause you to be more prone to dry eyes. Your eyes may burn. They may itch. If bad enough, your eyes may be red and vision could be affected. The solution: Eye drops.
  3. Tearing: Those watery eyes. The opposite of dry eyes. Your eyes produce too many tears. It could be a sign of eye infection or a blocked tear duct. For many midlife riders, it could be the simple things like the sun and the wind. The Solution: Wear your sunglasses and protect those eyes.

Once you sober up from that long trip to South Dakota , take time and make sure you are taking care of your eyes. If you cant read the repair manual, fixing that old hog may turn into quite the challenge.

Keep riding and stay in your lane!
