Something fishy about Mayans MC

Mayans MC is wrapping up this week.    I know, its a hard thing to comprehend.   ALREADY!

Kudos to Mr. Sutter for what seems to be another outstanding series in Mayans MC.   The story line of Mayans is aggressive and   “ALL IN”.   Like skipping over the first 3 episodes of Sons of Anarchy to find the OMG drama kicking in.

Aside from the departure from drag bars and cafe fairings, Mayans is showing us a different bike style.  Ape hangers and low riding classic looking bikes.      A Latino and low rider inspired bike culture that is, can I say, just awesome.    To think that bikes can be something other than BLACK. No knock on anyone with a black, jet black, or any shade of black ride.   Cool is cool.

Whats the deal with those funky tail pipes?

Fishtail or Cholo exhausts are commonplace on this series centered around the primarily Hispanic motorcycle club.

I noticed, looking close at those low riding, classic styled bikes, the most common characteristic they have  (aside from the kick ass Breakout that is being ridden), is the fishtail exhaust.

This style of exhaust goes back to early 1900s.   An early Triumph can be seen with one from 1913:

The style is classic, cool, and laid back.   This is the essence of what these bikes stand for.  They are not drag bikes, muscle bikes, or sport bikes.   Uniqueness and individuality can be seen in the  Road Kings, Softtails, and even a Breakout.  We can even see colors …Bikers can ride bikes that are not BLACK!

Check out this post about the BIkes of Mayans!

The series, Sons of Anarchy, caused a boom in a certain type of bike style   Will Mayans MC cause an increase in individuality and old school style that has been paramount to motorcycle culture for decades?    Lets hope.   Harley needs the boost.

Pop culture , without a doubt, influences style and attitudes.   Mayans MC may shift the motorcycle style’s and trends away from what Son’s gave us.   Apes and Fishes…

Keep riding, stay safe, and be unique!
